Expectations of formalityCertain writing projects carry with them certain general expectations. Scientific papers, for instance, almost always call for formal, methodical, objective-sounding language. At the other end of the spectrum, fiction and poetry give you considerable leeway in structure, the level of formality, and even in grammar.
