? Submit both the solution document and excel files to DC Connect as per the
due date. If you do not submit both the files, the assignment will be marked for 0.
1. Microsoft Excel – formulas
? Create the Excel worksheet as shown below. (use the Insert equation to type the
equations in Excel). The formatting should be exactly as shown.
? Write the excel formula for each question
? Find the answers by entering appropriate formulas. Round your answer to 1 digit
after the decimal point.
? Rename the worksheet as formulas.
? Save the file as assignment1_studentFirstName
? Paste the Excel output in the solution document.

2. Microsoft Excel – BEDMAS
? To switch between displaying formulas and their values on a worksheet, Press CTRL+`
(grave accent – back quote). This allows you to view values or formulae.
a. Move to Sheet2, rename the worksheet as BEDMAS
b. Enter the title “MATH 1110 : BEDMAS (Assignment 1)” in row 1 in boldface and
underline.
c. Place the following headings in row 2 for columns A to H (i.e. A2 to H2) as a, b, c,
d, F1, F2, F3, F4 (in bold face).
d. In column A cells 4 to 18, enter the numbers 1 through 15 (Hint: You can also use
Fill Handle feature learnt in the lecture notes – page 50)
e. In column B, cells 4 to 18 enter the numbers as 1500, 4500, 7500, ….. 43500 (Hint:
You can also use Fill Handle feature learnt in the lecture notes – page 50)
f. In column C, cells 4 to 18, enter 1.5%, 3.5% 5.5% to 29.5% (Hint: You can also
use Fill Handle feature learnt in the lecture notes – page 50)
g. In column D, cells 4 to 18, enter the squares 1, 4, 9, … 225 (Hint: You can also use
a formula to square the numbers in column A)
h. Do all the formatting needed like boldface, color, picture (computer or any other
picture), your details, etc. Your excel worksheet should be as given below:

i. In column E, cells 4 to 18, enter the formula for F1 as = a * (0.6+ c)

You have to convert the variables into the corresponding cells. Copy the formula
from cell F4 to F5 to F18.

j. In column F, cells 4 to 18, enter the formula for F2 as = a * (7 + c

m. Find the lowest number in cells E4 to E18 and place the answer in cell E19 (use
appropriate function)
n. Find the Average of the numbers in cells F4 to F18 and place the answer in cell
F19 (use appropriate function)
o. Find the highest number in cells G4 to G18 and place the answer in cell G19 (use
appropriate function)
p. Find the Total of the numbers in cells H4 to H18 and place the answer in cell H19
(use appropriate function)
q. Format the numbers in column E to H to currency to the nearest cent (2 decimals)
r. Save the file
? Paste the Excel output in the solution document
Submit the Excel file (.xlsx) along with the solution document to DC
Connect.

Marking Scheme (Guidelines to be followed)
1. Dropbox submission: Excel file and solution document must be submitted to dropbox
( (1 mark)
2. Solution document must have proper formatting (title page, page numbers, question
numbers, cropping the output correctly, ….) (1 mark)
3. Q1. (3 marks)
a. Use equation editor to enter question details
b. Use BEDMAS while entering the formulas using cell addresses and not the
values to get the correct output
c. Formulas must be entered correctly, else invalid answer
d. Excel sheet must be renamed as Formulas
4. Q2 (5 marks)
a. Create the worksheet as given in the assignment
b. Use BEDMAS while entering the formulas using cell addresses and not the
values to get the correct output
c. Use an appropriate functions instead of entering the individual cells or values
in E19, F19, G19 and H19
d. Format the numbers in currency format as indicated. Do not use Accounting
format
e. Formatting: Draw lines around the cells, heading, picture, bold face, etc.
f. Excel sheet must be renamed as BEDMAS
g. Name, Student ID and Date must be entered at the end of the table #Minimum 100 words accepted#
