EXAMPLES:

(i) A book lying on the table remains at rest until it is listed or pushed by exerting a force.

(ii)A rolling ball on the ground comes to rest after covering some distance. The ball has not contradicted the first law of motion due to the ball has been stopped because of friction of ground and resistance of air. If we delete these frictional forces, once the ball set into motion will carry on its motion for ever.
