Q. Earth work in high embankments?

(a) Borrow pits must not be dug close to telegraph poles, electric poles, level crossings, bridges a culverts, or within 800 meters of the boundary.

(b) Borrow pits must be laid out as the Engineer directions. The pits must be rectangular. The sides of borrow pits next to the toe of bank must be sloped at one to two and else where at 1 to 1.

(c ) Where the ground is low end swampy, the outer or most distant half of the borrow pits is to be excavated first.

(d) In banks over 3 metres high, the outer halves only of the borrow pits are to be marked out.
