Drawbacks of Lamellar model

  1. This model does not explain the elasticity of PM. Although this model says that PM is elastic but it also states that head of lipid molecules is attached to protein molecules through electrostatic (strongest) bonds in which condition PM cannot be elastic, so these points are contradictory to each other.
  2. It doesn't explain the selective permeability of PM. According to this model protein molecules are fixing in position.
  3. According to this theory PM is symmetrical while it is asymmetrical.
  4. This model doesn't explain non leakage (retentivity) absorbed materials.
