Drawbacks

Pooling up the necessary funds to opt for centralized cataloguing may be difficult for some libraries.
Because of local variations it may be difficult to go in for centralized cataloguing.
Centralized cataloguing system may cause delay. A library with a lower number of accessions can complete the job of cataloguing much earlier.
Similarly such libraries may not need all the catalogue cards prepared by the central organisation. It may not buy all the books because of its limited funds and requirements. Excess cards will be a waste then.
