Discuss DMA operation in brief.
The fundamental idea of DMA is to transfer blocks of data directly among memory and peripherals. The data don't suffer the microprocessor but the data bus is involved. "Normal" transfer of one data byte engages in to 29 clock cycles. The DMA transfer needs only 5 clock cycles.
Today, DMA can transfer data as fast as 60 M byte per second. The transfer rate is restricted by the speed of peripheral and memory devices.
