Determine the working of N- Channel JFET
In N-channel JFET, two p regions are connected with each other (internally or externally) and are called gate (G). Ohmic contacts are made at the two ends of N type semiconductor bar. One terminal known as source (S) through which majority carriers (electrons in this case) enter the bar. Other terminal as the drain (D) through which these majority carriers leave the bar. However in MOSFET, over left side of the channel, a thin layer of metal oxide (usually silicon dioxide) is deposited. A metallic Gate is deposited over silicon dioxide .Gate is insulated from the semiconductor since silicon dioxide is an insulator. That is why MOSFET is also called Insulated Gate FET. Like JFET, ohmic contacts are made at the two ends (Drain and Source) of the N-type semiconductor bar.
