Determine the maximum vertical load, Mechanical Engineering

Assignment Help:

It shows the test rig for the assignment of an indeterminate structure at the Materials Lab. The indeterminate structure consists of three pin-jointed members made of the same steel tube. The top member is at 45o to the vertical. The middle member is horizontal and the bottom member is at an angle of 60o to the vertical. The bottom member is 1m long between pins. The outside diameter of the steel tube is 25.4mm and the wall thickness is 1.2mm. Young's Modulus of the material is 210GPa. The yielding strength of the material is 350MPa.

(1) Calculate the theoretical load in each member of the structure if a load of 15kN is applied horizontally.

(2) Calculate the theoretical load in each member of the structure if a load of 8kN is applied vertically.

(3) Determine the maximum horizontal load the indeterminate structure can take.

(4) Determine the maximum vertical load the indeterminate structure can take.
