An inside cylinder locomotive has its cylinder centre lines 0.70m apart and has a stroke of 0.60m.

Rotating mass per cylinder = 150kg

Distance between wheel Centre lines = 1.5m

Reciprocating mass per cylinder = 180kg

Angle between cranks = 90 degree

The whole of the rotating and 2/3 of the reciprocating masses are to be balanced by masses placed at a radius of 0.6m. Determine direction of the balancing masses and the magnitude.

Determine the fluctuation in rail pressure under one wheel, the magnitude of swaying couple at a crank speed of 300rpm and variation of tractive force.
