Construction of UJT

The fundamental structure of a UJT is illustrated in fig. (a). It comprises an n-type silicon bar that is lightly doped. Two end connections are taken from bar known as base-one (B1) and base-two (B2). A heavily doped p-type region is diffused to n type nearer to B2. This creates a pn junction with the bar  as illustrated in fig.(a). A lead is connected to p region called emitter (E). Schematic symbol of UJT is demonstrated in fig. (b).
