i ) In rice paddies requiring nitrogen - blue-green algae 

ii) In acid soils  -  soil fungi

iii ) In the  decomposition of the most resistant organic compounds - soil fungi and soil actinomycetes

iv)  In fixing atmospheric nitrogen - symbiotic and nonsymbiotic nitrogen fixing bacteria

v)  Where photosynthesis occurs - soil algae
