Describe the types of flip-flops and latches.

Flip-flops are of two types as illustrated below:

a. Positive edge triggered

b.  negative edge triggered

Latches are also two types as given below here:

Negative latch (transparent while CLK= 0)

Positive latch (transparent while CLK= 1)

Relationship:

  a. fllipflops take double the number of gates as latches

  b. therefore automatically delay is more for flipflops

  c. also the power consumption is more.
