Describe the modes of failure in bearing capacity, Mechanical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Describe the modes of failure in bearing capacity.

Modes of Failure:

Behaviour of foundations subjected to load based on actual observations suggests that the bearing capacity failure occurs usually as a shear failure of the soil supporting the footing. From the model tests, it is established that a shallow foundation can undergo three distinct modes of failure.

They are as follows: General shear failure, Local shear failure and Punching shear failure.
