Describe Graphing Equations with a Positive Slope?
There are 3 steps to graphing a linear equation: 1. Identify and plot the y-intercept.2. Determine the slope. Use the slope to plot the second point according to the rise over run. 3. Connect the points, which will form a line.
Example: Graph y = 1/3x + 2.
Step 1: Identify and plot the y-intercept. The y-intercept is the number by itself. The y-intercept = +2 and is located at (0, 2).
Step 2: Identify the slope. Start from the y-intercept and move according to the slope. Make a dot where you end up.Slope = 1/3.The numerator is the "rise" - go up 1.The denominator is the "run" - go right 3.On the graph, start from point (0,2), go up 1 and go right 3, then put a dot where you end up. Step 3: Connect the points you got from Step 1 and Step 2. The resulting line is the graph of the equation, y = 1/3x + 2.
