Define Resolution - terminologies used in chromatography?

Resolution is the effectiveness of the separation and is determined by two factors.

These include:

  • Distance between zone centres as they migrate, and
  • Compactness of zone

As distance between zone centres increases degree of separation increases and the measure of this difference is called resolution.
