What is the difference among Free Electron Theory and Band Theory of solids?
Free Electron Theory:
This theory says that, metals conduct electricity due to the presence of free electrons in it. The outermost shells of metal atoms will be loosely bound with their nucleus. So the electrons in it are free to move anywhere in the solid.
These electrons are known as free electrons and these electrons are responsible for the conduction of electricity.
Regard as an electron and a proton at an instant in time to be at a separation of 5 cm from each other. Presume the pair to be totally isolated from its surroundings in the vacuum
