When one is computing the electric potential at a particular point in space due to a continuous charge distribution what exactly is one calculating?

Ans:

The electric potential V exemplifies an empty point in space. V is a value of electric-potential energy- per-charge. If a particle of charge q was placed at the point at which V is computed said particle would have potential energy qV.
