The IITRI test is widely used to measure the compressive properties of composites.
The specimen is rectangular with aluminium end tabs bonded to protect against the gripping action of the jaws.

Strain gauges are bonded to each side of the sample. The sample is loaded at 1 mm/minute and strain gauge reading are taken.
