Is it accurate to say that the Civil War was caused by slavery? Did the sectional differences and the political arguments of the previous years make secession a foregone conclusion or would these issues have been worked out if not set against the backdrop of slavery? Would the Civil War have still happened if they country had remained under the Articles of Confederation?
