Chemical properties of Cycloalkanes
Cycloalkanes behave both such as alkenes and alkanes in their chemical properties. All cycloalkanes go through substitution reaction with halogen in the existence of light (such as alkane). All cycloalkane (lower members) go through addition reaction (for example Addition of H2, HX, X2). Additionally the tendency of forming addition compounds decreases along with increase in size of ring cyclopropane > Cyclobutane > Cyclopentane. Relative ring opening of ring is described by Baeyer strain theory.
