Definitions

 A Brønsted base a proton acceptor, and Brønsted acid is a proton donor. In this definition an acid-base reaction accepts protolysis:

HA is called the conjugate acid to A-, and A+ the conjugate base to HA; HB+ and B form another conjugate acid-base pair. There is some examples of some conjugate pairs (with the acid given first) are:
