Atomic structure: number of scattered particles, Physics

Assignment Help:

(i)Most of the alpha-particles pass by the foil straight away undeflected.

(ii)Some of them are deflected by small angles.

(iii)A few alpha-particles (1 in 1000) are deflected by the angle more than 90o.

(iv)A few alpha -particles (very few) returned back i.e. deflected by 180o.

(v) Distance of closest approach (Nuclear dimension)

After Rutherford's scattering of alpha-particles experiment, following conclusions were made as regard as atomic structure:

(a)          Most of the volume and every of the charge of an atom concentrated in a very minute region is known as atomic nucleus.

(b)          Nucleus has positive charge and it's size is of the order of 10–15 m ≈1 Fermi.

(c)           In a molecule there is maximum empty space and the electrons revolve around the nucleus in the similar way as the planets revolve around the sun.
