Aromatic compounds - Homocyclic or Carbocyclic

These compounds contain at least one benzene ring, that is a six-membered carbocyclic ring occupying alternate single and double bonds. Usually, these compounds have some fragrant odour and therefore, termed as aromatic (Greek word aroma meaning sweet smell).

These are as well called benzenoid aromatics.
