The potential relevance of the concept of a destination life cycle has been examined in a number of studies. The model has apparent potential to advance theory and practice of tourism planning, particularly as a conceptual framework within which long term changes can be forecasted and strategies for land use, economic development and marketing can be harmonized.

Using relevant examples to illustrate your arguments, critically analyze the destination life cycle concept and discuss how far the model can be used as a tool for tourism planning and policy making.
