Advantages of integrated circuits over conventional circuits, Physics

Assignment Help:

Advantages of Integrated Circuits (ICs) over conventional circuits:

(1)  Very small size- thousand times smaller than discrete circuit.

(2)  Very small weight due to miniaturized circuit.

(3)  Very low cost due to simultaneous production of hundreds of similar circuits on a small semiconductor wafer.

(4)  More reliable due to elimination of soldered joints and need for fewer interconnections.

(5)  Low power consumption owing to their smaller size.

(6)  Easy replacement as it's more economical to replace them than to repair them

(7)  Increased operating speeds owing to parasitic capacitance effect.

(8)  Improved functional performance as more complex circuits can be fabricated for achieving better characteristics.

(9) Suitable for small signal operation.
