The platform is connected to the ground by a spring of constant K = 100 N/m and the ball is initially 1 m above ground as shown. The dimensions of the ball and the platform are ignored for the purpose of this problem. The platform is then pulled down, compressing the spring, and released to launch the ball up.
A) Draw a pictorial representation. The instant the platform is released is the initial state, and the final state is when the ball reaches its maximum height. Include a coordinate system with the origin, the boundaries of the system, and the known qualities for each state.
