Question 1: Consider the truss assembly shown in Fig. 1 which represents a crane carrying a load P = 210 kN. It is made of steel with Young's Modulus of E = 210 GPa. All members have a cross sectional area of A = 4.0 x 10-4 m2. The bars 1, 2, and 7 are of an equal length of L=1 m.

(a) Write the element stiffness matrix for each of the members in the truss.

(b) Write the reduced global matrix by applying boundary conditions.

(c) Find all the unknown displacements and the support reactions.

(d) Find the stress in member 8.

(c) Write the global (mixed) matrix by applying boundary conditions.

(d) Find all the unknown displacements.

(e) Find the stress in each member.
