Chunk and Slice body paragraphs
The two paragraphs, together, are worth 1 summary grade. They are due at the beginning of class on Friday, October 14. You will go over them in small groups.
You may type and print your paragraphs or write them by hand. The sentences should be correctly written and legible. Be sure your name is on the top of your piece(s) of paper.
Please read the two This I Believe essays handed out in class (and available at https://www.thisibeleve.org). One essay is by William and is titled "Chocolate Milkshake," and the other is by Jacob and is titled "I Believe in Chocolate and Family Relations." Look up any words you don't know (for example, pinot is a type of wine).
Then write two body paragraphs that compare and/or contrast the two essays. Write one body paragraph in the chunk method and the other in the slice method as described by Cooley. Each paragraph should have clear topic sentence, examples for validation, analysis and a concluding sentence.
The difference from the TIAC method of paragraph construction is the internal arrangement of the examples and analysis that flows from a detailed topic sentence.
You may choose to use the same topic sentence for both body paragraphs, but you could create different topic sentences for them.
