There are seven short answer questions. For each question please write between 200- 250 words and include examples of specific scenes or moments in the film (use as much detail as possible). You are welcome to use the PowerPoint notes to help support your answers but please don't rely on them. Please make sure each of the questions discuss different films (you'll be discussing five in total). Allow time to proofread carefully.
1. Films speak to the social conditions and attitudes of their times. Choose two films that we examined in class that explore similar themes. How do they compare? How do they differ?

4. How has Clueless been influential in society? How did the film infiltrate popular culture in the 1990s?
5. What does John Hughes say about class in The Breakfast Club? In which scene does he highlight this?
6. Choose one film that we watched in this class and discuss the ways in which the director explores the politics of gender? How does this reflect or challenge societal notions of gender?
7. Why do you think Charlie Chaplin wrote the script for Modern Times? What was his purpose in producing this film?
