Task I: Topic Selection and Literature
You can select one of the following topics on treatment of offenders for your project:
• Treatment of sex offenders
• Treatment of batterers
• Anger management training
• Treatment of antisocial personality disorder
• Treatment of the mentally ill offender
• Treatment of developmentally disabled offenders
• Treatment of juvenile offenders
Provide a brief description of the topic to your instructor. Include a brief discussion of the treatment for the offender population. This could include the type of treatment-related assessment, the assessment instruments used and the treatment approach, a description of the offender population, and measures of the effectiveness of the treatment. These comments need to show that you have selected your topic and have enough resources to complete a scholarly review.
After you select a specific treatment for a specific offender population, conduct a preliminary literature search on the topic you selected to ensure that you have ready access to scholarly resources. In the report, include a list of scholarly resources to be used for the literature review of your course project. This list should contain a minimum of ten peer-reviewed journal articles and scholarly texts focusing on issues related to your topic, such as etiology, prevalence, and treatment. Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .gov, and the apa.org website).
