Interviewer Role
Reflect on your role in the interview process by responding to the required questions.
Stance. How was taking a stance as an observer for the linear questions different from taking the stance of an observer-participant for the systemic questions?
Relationship with the interviewee. How did each approach (the two different sets of questions) influence the kind of relationship you developed with the interviewee? In other words, what did the relationship with the interviewee feel like when you ask linear questions, and how did your relationship with the interviewee change when you switched to systemic question? What other differences did you notice resulting from each approach?
Multicultural/diversity issues. Reflect on your awareness of the influence of multicultural or diversity issues regarding race, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or other considerations. How was the relationship with the interviewee informed/affected by how you and the interviewee are similar or different across a host of descriptors such as age, gender, marital status, parental status, geographic region, or religious affiliation?
Curiosity. Make an assessment of your ability to be curious. What are the topics or information that got you very curious? Describe how you took a curious stance, or lack thereof, and how that influenced the interview.
Bias/Triggers: Reflect on any question or answer from the interviewee that triggered an awareness of any bias, judgment, or inability to remain focused and engaged in useful conversation. What could have happened in the interview that would prompt you to seek supervision?
Assessment of Interviewer. Description of what you did in the interview that you liked, and what you would like to have done differently. Include examples of what you said and what you wish you had said.
