Assignment details:
You are required to submit a Term Paper in a group of maximum four students. The term paper will contain two part. The first part will be based upon literature review on purchasing whilst the second part will be based upon a case study of a particular company concerning their purchasing approach.
Part 1
Using the secondary data, write an essay describing the purchasing function and reflecting how purchasing processes have developed over the years.
Part 2
Select a company in Oman (excluding Sohar University) and study the role of purchasing in that organization. You should interview some key official responsible for purchase there. Additionally, you can also refer to primary or secondary data sources such as magazines, books, websites, journal articles to enrich your work. Based on your learning of Purchasing and Inventory Management and the information secured fro the company, prepare a report according to the following structure:
1. Background of the Organization and its operations
2. Major purchases (purchase types) of the organization
3. Major suppliers and a description of the supply chain
4. Purchase procedure (preferably prepare a process flow chart)
5. A discussion on the key strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for this company
6. Some advice concerning the purchase function to the organization
7. Bibliography
Your report must reveal the following:
• Which organization did you visit?
• A critical reflection of how the organization is doing and where it can improve.
Part 3
Presentation of the outcomes of Part 2
Based upon this experience, you will be required to present to the course coordinator as a group where you will be asked specifically about your individual contribution in this project work. The marks for the overall project report will be same for all the members in the group whereas the marks for the individuals may differ on the basis of the contribution of each member in the group.
