We will work on the summaries & commentaries for each of the core readings in Weeks 3, 4 and S. Then, in Week 6, we will demonstrate how an annotated bibliography should be presented. Guidelines and examples of an annotated bibliography are also provided in the Week 6 Learning Materials and Chapter 6 (p. 146) of our textbook (Rolls & Wignell, 2015).

Length: Approximately 800 words. Reference details are not included in the word limit of this assessment. Submission: Submit your annotated bibliography through the "AZ: Annotated Bibliography" link in the "Assessment Submission" area of Learnline by 23:59 on Monday of Week 7. Points to consider for passing Assessment: Follow the task guidelines above, as well as the guidelines for writing an annotated bibliography as provided in our Week 6 Learning Materials. Refer to your textbook for extra information, hints and tips on the appropriate structure. Follow correct referencing conventions to present each core reading's details as the heading for that section of your annotated bibliography. Do not add a separate reference list at the end of your annotated bibliography. There should be no in-text citations within an annotated bibliography.

Remember that the sections of your annotated bibliography should be presented in alphabetical order according to the surnames of the leading authors of the core readings. So, the order of the core readings (as presented in Weeks 3, 4 and 5) is not necessarily the order in which this assessment item should reference them. Each section of your annotated bibliography should be approximately 400 words. This should consist of your summary paragraph (approximately 200 words) and your commentary paragraph (approximately 200 words). The commentary (or 'linking') section of this assessment item is particularly difficult because you are being asked to explicitly discuss which ideas and/or arguments of the author(s) could apply to your chosen scenario. Ask yourself: how is this source relevant to my scenario, and why? What sections, themes or examples could I use in my Persuasive Essay? Analysing and linking ideas across topics and scenarios is an important skill to develop at university for research in your study areas.

Rubric – Content (70%) – Summary: Summaries for two core readings are paraphrased accurately and concisely, capturing key ideas and arguments in a sophisticated manner. Commentary - Commentaries for two core readings identify the chosen scenario and clearly discuss which ideas and arguments are thought to relate to this scenario. Connections between readings and essay are handled in an unanticipated and sophisticated manner. Referencing - Headings for two core readings are complete with correct details and accurately follow APA 6th edition referencing conventions.

Language & organisation (30%) – Academic style, voice & word choice: The writing is highly sophisticated and shows significant complexity. Tone is consistent and suitable for academic writing. Word choice is consistent, effective and articulate. Fluency & organisation - Sentence structure is consistently clear and logical. Relationships between ideas are eloquently and smoothly established. Organised into well-structured and clear paragraphs. Grammar Conventions - Writing is error-free, contributing to enhanced readability. Formatting & word count - Layout and formatting are completed perfectly as per instructions. Word count is correct.
