Purpose

This homework is designed to help you develop basic proficiency in composing research papers. You will use skills that you developed, and will practice critical thinking and writing skills, especially as they apply to argument. You will write critical reactions and arguments in response to various assigned readings. The main goal of the homework is to plan, draft, revise, and edit an argument-based research paper. Specifically, in this course you will:

1. critically analyze and respond to written texts;
2. formulate topics and theses for research-based writing;
3. find and evaluate sources and details to support these topics;
4. integrate sources into your written work by quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing;
5. recognize and use proper MLA format in documenting sources;
6. plan, research, write, revise, and edit a research paper;
7. increase spoken fluency and accuracy through in-class participation;
8. present the finished research paper to the class.
