Transfer Assignment: Review
Requirements - Review one of the following videos using critical but not necessarily formal language:
Option 1: Beyoncé. (2016). Formation [Video File].
Option 2: Knott, H. (2018). Dear Mr. Prime Minister: This Poet Has Something to Say to You About Indigenous Rights [Video File].
Your Transfer Assignment: Review must be submitted as a .docx Word document to the correct assignment portal on Blackboard. Submissions inputted in other formats will be returned ungraded and suffer late penalties. It should be 750 words, it should be double-spaced, and it should include an APA reference for the source at the end (hint: the above reference is formatted correctly). Any direct quotes from the source should be properly cited using APA citation format. It should be at least 3 paragraphs, and probably 4 or 5.
Description - A review asks you to assess a source and offer your opinion on it. For this assignment, you can choose one of the two videos listed above and write a critical review of that video. You should write in full paragraphs with correct grammar and structure but you have the freedom to use more casual language than you would in technical or academic writing.
Start with a clear, economic, and precise overview of what the video that emphasizes your main point about the video's effectiveness. What is the video saying? How effective is it at saying that thing? Use the main points you've identified to structure your review around ideas you want to discuss. You can talk about the words, images, or production featured in the video.
Your review does not need to have a formally-worded thesis, but your first paragraph should make a main point that your other points work to support. Both videos are trying to explicitly say something about race and identity; what is being said? This assignment is not meant to be about whether you agree or disagree with the message; rather, you are meant to assess the approaches and techniques that are used in the videos to make their respective points. Good submissions will be focused and precise. Excellent submissions will provide a nuanced analysis of your chosen video.
