Annotated Bibliography
An annotated bibliography is a list of research sources that includes a short summary under each source. This assignment is intended to help you prepare for the research essay and to increase your familiarity with MLA format.
1. Using the tips from Module 6 and SearchPath, find four sources that you might use for the research essay. Ensure that your sources are credible, recent, and relevant.
2. Write a bibliographic entry for each of the four sources. Apply MLA documentation style.
3. Below each entry, write a few sentences (around 100-250 words) to comment on the writer's credibility and the source's value to your topic. Use the sample annotated bibliography in section R3-e "Construct an Annotated Bibliography" in your Canadian Writer's Reference as a guide for what to include in each annotation, along with the rubric found in the Grading Guidelines and Rubrics folder.
Here are descriptions of the topics you can develop here. Note that these topics are the same as for the final paper. Choose the same topic that you intend to focus on for the final paper and pick sources that will contribute to how you will narrow that topic down in your final paper:
1. Improving the Internet
While there are many great aspects to virtual communication and research, living digitally comes with many downsides such as the proliferation of misinformation, cyberbullying, disconnection, and heightened disparity. Consider one aspect of internet usage that is problematic and, using your research, argue for a way to improve or eliminate that problem.
2. Improving Post-secondary
While a university degree is often lauded as valuable for personal improvement and necessary for one's career prospects, not all students are successful and some have negative experiences. Consider one aspect of the post-secondary student experience that can stand in the way of students' success or has a negative impact on their experience or learning. Using your research, argue for a solution or course of action that would improve the experiences or success of post-secondary students.
