Problem

I do not think this idea of paying young people for doing what they are supposed to do (being good kids) will ever become a common practice across the United States. It may work for a while or until the kids want even more money and resort to breaking the law to get it. The extra money could also be used for nefarious reasons such as funding illegal activities. There are a lot of small towns that cannot afford this.

There is no evidence showing programs like San Francisco Dream keeper Fellowship to reduce recidivism rates. By having the youth serve as public safety ambassadors, it promotes community building in disadvantaged areas. In a way, participants are under public scrutiny and there are concerns related to accountability. Mismanagement of funds for the program has been an issue as well.

I do not think taxpayer money should be used to support an initiative such an this. That money is already stretched thin by paying for inmate's required three meals daily and for the pensions of public officials.
