This semester we've covered many of the world's major religious traditions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Confucianism, Daoism, and Navajo Religion) as well as atheism and, what I'm calling, secular spirituality. For your last assignment this semester I'd like you to research a new religious movement. Your goal is to learn about the history, beliefs, and practices of this religious movement, as well why better understanding this new religious movement is important. Assignment You must write on one of the following new religious movements: The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints Jehovah's Witnesses Rastafarianism Wahhabism The Theosophical Society The International Society for Krishna Consciousness Wicca Asatru The Baha'i Faith If there is a different new religious movement you'd really like to write on, you will need approval to do so. Send me an email at least 10 days before the due date to discuss the religion you'd like to write on. Your short paper must briefly explain: the central beliefs or tenets of the movement, a selective history of the movement, the basic practices of the movement, the social and/or political significance of this religion and why it is important to better understand this movement.
