Assessment Task 2: Project

In this task, you are required to demonstrate your skills and knowledge by working through a number of activities and completing and submitting a Portfolio. This includes answering questions in a reflective manner based on your interactions and experiences during your work placement and completing observations.
You will need access to:
a suitable work placement (with children in a regulated education and care service in Australia)
educators and supervisors for guidance
your Student Assessment Tasks
your learning resources and other information for reference (Policies and Procedures, National Quality Framework and service standards/policies and procedures)
information technology for research
Portfolio template.
Ensure that you:
review the advice to students regarding responding to written tasks in the Early Childhood Education and Care Student User Guide
comply with the due date for assessment which your assessor will provide
adhere with your RTO's submission guidelines
answer all questions completely and correctly
submit work which is original and, where necessary, properly referenced
submit a completed cover sheet with your work
avoid sharing your answers with other students.

Activities
Complete the following activities:
Carefully read the following information.

Successful completion of this assessment task requires you to demonstrate your skills and knowledge to work effectively in a children's education and care setting.
As you do this, you are required to work in line with your work placement centre's policies and procedures and all regulatory requirements.
It is important that you provide evidence that you have completed all the requirements below and we have provided you with a Portfolio Template to work into.
You need to complete the following as part of your evidence for this unit:
Do research using digital technology and other information sources to access, and interpret information related to working in children's education and care and developing your own professional practice. This includes information about:
the National Quality Framework (NQF)
roles and responsibilities
policies and procedures for:
employment
children's health and safety
collaboration with families and community
educational program and practice
physical environment
relationships with children.
professional practice.
Use the information you researched to plan and complete five different daily work activities that form part of an educator's role in an education and care setting and relate to:
children's health and safety
collaboration with families and community
educational program and practice
physical environment
relationships with children.
Prevent, defuse and resolve conflict as you perform the daily work activities.

You are able to choose which five daily activities you plan and complete as they will depend on the age of the children, the nature of the service you are doing this assessment at and the approved earning framework they follow.
If you are unsure, speak to your assessor or supervisor for examples of five different daily work activities you could perform.

To document all this evidence, you will:
complete written reflections in Section 1 of your Portfolio about what you have done while on placement.
have your work placement supervisor complete Section 2 of your Portfolio to verify that you have worked doing the above activities during your work placement.

You will collect most of your evidence and complete Portfolio documentation during the work placement phase of your course. You may also complete some of your Portfolio in the classroom. The rest can be completed in the classroom after your work placement is finished. Further instructions are provided in your Portfolio document.

Make sure you look in detail at the Supervisor Report in Section 2 of your Portfolio so you know what your supervisor will be looking for when you are on your work placement that relates to this unit.

When in your work placement, keep in mind that the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of the children and families you work with. There will be requirements around informed consent from children's family or guardians in some cases and your work placement organisation. Your workplace supervisor and assessor will guide you in relation to your informed consent requirements.
Read your Portfolio document thoroughly before you begin work on this assessment.

Tips for completing your Portfolio
Read through this assessment and your Portfolio before you get started and make sure you understand what you need to do. If you are unsure, speak to your assessor and/or workplace supervisor.
Stay up to date! Complete your Portfolio entries as you go and ask your supervisor to do the same. Providing organised, complete evidence forms part of your assessment.
Stay in touch with your assessor. Ask questions, raise issues, check in, communicate.
Most importantly, ask for help if you are having trouble!
