Q. In designing rotating space stations to offer for artificial-gravity environments, one of the constraints that must be considered is motion sickness. Studies have shown that the negative effects of motion sickness begin to appear while the rotational motion is faster than approximately 2.05 revolutions per minute. On the other hand, the magnitude of the centripetal acceleration at the astronauts' feet must equal the magnitude of the acceleration because of gravity on earth. Thus, to eliminate the difficulties with motion sickness, designers must choose the distance between the astronaut's feet and the axis about which the space station rotates to be greater than a certain least value. What is this least value?
Find the typical speed for a tsunami. (Note down that in the open ocean, tsunamis generally have amplitude of less than a meter, allowing them to pass ships unnoticed. As they approach shore, however, water depth decreases and the waves slow down. Th..
An 80 kg spacewalking astronaut pushes off a 640 kg satellite, exerting the 100N force for the 0.50 s it takes him to straighten his arms.
What are the total displacement and angle of displacement
Find the magnitude of the acceleration for an electron in a uniform electric field with a magnitude of 122 N/C.
Estimate the speed of the water just before striking the turbine blades (overlook air resistance).
M1 is five times more massive than M2. One force acts on the hanging mass, but the net force acts on both masses. Once you have the acceleration, you can compute the distance.
At rest when constructed, the ring is set rotating about its axis so that the people inside experience effective free-fall acceleration equal to g. The rotation is achieved by firing two small rockets attached tangentially to opposite points on the r..
The quartz crystal in a digital watch has a frequency of 32.8 kHz. What is its period of oscillation?
Write down the original position of the system
Find out a magnitude and direction of the electric field
A spring with spring constant 12.5 hangs from the ceiling. A 400 ball is attached to the spring and allowed to come to rest. It is then pulled down 6.80 and released. What is the time constant if the ball's amplitude has decreased to 3.90 after 57.0 ..
The electricity received at an electric substation has a potential difference of 2.80 10^5V. If the requires output is 440V, what must be the ratio of the turns of the step-down transformation.
