One reason that the maximum electric field is important is because of the possibility of impact ionization, which may be desired or undesired in a particular application. The process of impact ionization is dependent on the electric field because the higher the field the higher the kinetic energy reached by an electron within a "certain time". Give the name of this "certain time" and write an expression for it in terms of the mobility and effective mass.
