The maintenance of homeostasis is of major importance to all organ systems in the body and the overall survival of the individual. Explain how homeostasis is the maintenance of a dynamic range of environmental qualities rather than holding the internal environment at a set point. What would be wrong with a set point (say for body temperature) rather than a working range of temperatures? The endocrine system is closely tied to homeostasis functioning. Give two examples of hormones (including their glands of origin and action) that play major roles in homeostatic processes in the body. What happens if these hormones are disrupted in their actions? Also, look at how we adapt to survival in the outside world. Discuss how maintaining homeostasis gives us greater freedom of activity from dependence upon changes in the external environment. What happens during extremes that force our bodies out of homeostatic bounds? Give specific examples. Why is the maintenance of homeostasis especially important during development of new humans within the bodies of their mothers? What can go wrong if specific homeostatic functions are disrupted?
The CAP activator protein and the Lac repressor both control the Lac operon. You construct cells that are mutant in the gene coding for the Lac repressor.
if 0.1 mL of 10^-2 dilution of a culture is placed out and 36 colonies appear after incubation, how many Cfu/mL were in the undiluted culture?
What fraction of offspring of the cross AabbDd x AaBbdd are expected to have the same phenotype as either one of their parents assume that all three genes are on different chromosomes.
On the basis of these results, advance a hypothesis about the cause of the phenotype. Based on your hypothesis, what do you predict would happen to developing T cell in an HD mouse which has been made transgenic for a TCR restricted to I- A b .
For dialysis membranes the Lp was determined to be 6.34*10^-7 cm min^-1 mmHg-1 . A cylindrical hole 1 cm in diameter was cut in tow lexan pieces that were then bolted together with the membrane in.
The integrity of the plasma membrane is essential for cellular survival. Could the immune system utilize this fact to destroy foreign cells that have invaded the body? What physical and metabolic constraints limit the cell size.
Determine the articulating surfaces of the knee joint? Mention its supporting ligaments. What are knee flexor muscles?
Use the Scientific technique, evaluate a crime scene to explain a bloody fingerprint of the apparent victim in one room and the body of the victim in a different room.
Discussing the significance of the neurotransmitters within the neurotransmission. Describing a relationship between the dietary fat intake and related health concerns.
Using the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders, choose a behavioral disorder, identify a candidate gene, and explain how a mutation in it might cause the phenotype.
Cross a wildtype female with a yellow bodied male to generate an f1 offspring generation. Which allele is domonant and which is recessive. Justify your responce using your results.
