Question: A researcher wishes to examine the efficacy of a staff sports training programme aimed to minimise stress and the amount of coffee consumed. She believes the initiative will assist staff in staying healthy. The researcher will also compare floor personnel to office staff to determine if the initiative benefits different sorts of employees. To recruit participants, she tells attendees at a regular staff meeting about the study. Those who wish to participate sign up after the meeting, and the first 50 employees who sign up are offered a spot. Employees that are accepted into the training group attend weekly training sessions held during the lunch hour and are assigned homework to assist them master the skills taught.The names of employees who undergo training are sent to the promotions committee manager. The manager has access to all employee records and will supply the psychologist with performance and health data about the employees, including information on a random sample of employees who did not sign up for the programme, in order for the psychologist to evaluate the program's outcomes.
