Speakers: Jennifer Maggiore JENNIFER MAGGIORE: If you're starting in social media, the advice that I would give you would be to buckle in and hold on tight because social media changes every single day and I think you have to be - you have to be both a follower and a leader in social media.
What I mean by that is you have to be willing to go through research and development. You have to do a certain amount of independent research and work and it is not nine to five.
In social media you have to really love it and you eat it and you breathe it and you sleep it and you're using social media at work and in your personal time and you get very good at sort of filtering information and having that information come to you. So that information is coming at you all the time and so it is getting good at picking and choosing what is useful to you as a social media professional.
So I think being a leader in terms of where you're getting your information and passing that along to your team and then you also have to be a great follower because in many ways, we do come to our clients with strategy and the things we think that they should be doing but they have a voice in what is happening too.
So sometimes you are leading in terms of defining a strategy and making recommendations but then other times you're following because it is their brand and it is their financial investment. So I think if you want to go into social media, it is just being prepared for always having a loose plan and then keeping it fluid because there are so many factors involved whether it is the technology or if it is the client or the project that you are working on.
