Question: Some scholars claim that today's younger generations are among history's most active with regards to standing up for the rights and dignity of marginalized groups.

Contemporary social movements such as Occupy Wall Street, #MeToo, and anti-globalization demonstrations have become increasingly common yet do not seem to maintain the same staying power as other movements of generations past, for example, Gay Liberation or Civil Rights.

In a time and place where social media and internet penetration are connecting more people around the world, discuss why contemporary social movements are becoming increasingly short-lived and ineffective.
