Question: While reading each assigned chapter in the textbook, you are to take notes as you read and upload them to Canvas for credit. The Weekly Objectives and Discussion Board prompts for each chapter can help guide your focus on what to take notes on, but you do not have to follow them to earn credit.

Why are you required to take notes? Reading notes are a required assignment because they provide several benefits. Reading the textbook chapters provides an alternative viewpoint on sustainability concepts, and writing the notes forces you to spend some time reflecting on what you just read. Note-taking is also an important skill to have when studying for any course.

The format of your notes is up to you, but you must write your own notes. You can occasionally incorporate some direct sentences into your notes, but the majority of the work should be in your own words. You should have at least one page of typed or two pages of handwritten notes per chapter. Notes should be single-spaced (or the equivalent) with reasonably sized print or font. Notes should be organized and span the entire chapter, not just until you hit the page minimum requirements. This means you should incorporate ideas from the beginning, middle, and end of each chapter.
