ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY
Write a 800-1000 word paper that includes detailed annotations of at least 6 sources from the last 10 years using the MLA style of documentation. You should include one item you get from Inter Library Loan and one peer reviewed journal article or book.
The other sources should be based on the target audience and can come from a range of academic and popular sources.
Each annotation should summarize, analyze, and evaluate the source according to how it could serve your research project or what further questions it could raise. Annotations can also synthesize certain sources with others and/or respond to others.
SUMMARY, ANALYSIS, EVALUATION
To summarize, consider the context and aim for writing. Who wrote it, under what circumstances, and for what purpose? What topics are covered and what is it about? What are the main and supporting points? What important language or terminology should you pay attention to? Directed summaries and their importance
To analyze, consider how the argument is constructed. How is it organized? What evidence is given to support the claims? How does the author construct her/his ethos? What rhetorical appeals are made? Who is the intended audience and how can you tell?
To evaluate, comment on the intrinsic value of the source. What makes it successful, reliable, and credible? How would it be useful for your issue? What necessary information will it provide? How could it help shape your argument? Whose "voices" or perspectives does it represent? What dissonances do you find within it? What other ideas does it give you?
To avoid plagiarism, be sure to summarize the articles in your own words rather than rely too much on the authors' language. You may incorporate quotations where needed. Follow MLA guidelines for handling parenthetical citations and quotations.
