Luisa is a patient under your care who has been recently diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The disease is characterized by a degeneration of the pyramidal neurons in the motor cortex of the brain as well as the degeneration of neurons originating in the anterior horn of the spinal cord. Upon examination, you notice atrophy of the right deltoid, coracobrachialis, and right quadriceps femoris muscles. Which nerve plexus(es) are being affected by the disease and why do you think so?

Using a rubber hammer, you test the patellar tendon reflex on a patient. You notice his reflex is slow and almost completely absent. Based on your knowledge of reflex arcs, list possible reasons why the reaction you're expecting seems inhibited. Be specific.
