Problem: Data Interpretation

I. Display benzene and 1,3,5-cyclohexatriene on screen. Measure all CC bond lengths in benzene and 1,3,5-cyclohexatriene. What do the data suggest?

II. Compare the energies of benzene and 1,3,5-cyclohexatriene. Which molecule is more stable and why? Use these energies to calculate the "resonance energy (aka energy of aromaticity)" of benzene. Compare with the experimental value (~ 145 kJ/mol) and comment. Get the instant assignment help.

III. Display the bond elpot surfaces for both molecules in transparent style. Use tube model to display the molecules. Change the property ranges according to the instructor's directions. You may want to enlarge the molecules to see them better. Explain any significant differences you observe in the two surfaces and state how this difference supports the presence of resonance in benzene. Close the surfaces when done.
